Romano-Germanics -- children of The Latin Church -- feel time as chronos. Greco-Slavs -- children of The Greek Church -- feel time as kairos. I submit that this difference in feeling -- it’s not even thought about, just felt -- is the meta-explanation for such as retired GEN Petraeus ruling failed Russia’s SMO in the borderlands, part of Russia’s near abroad. Ukraine means borderlands.

Western doctrine — Petraeus’ sense of things — is to attack any time. Russian doctrine — Shoigu’s sense of things — is to attack at the right time. More ISR (Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance) and advanced mathematical calculations go into picking the right time to act than go into picking a time to act.

Working in chronological time, one just does whatever it is one wants to do once one believes one has prepared everything necessary to succeed in doing whatever it is one wants to do. Working in kairotic time, one has to do all of that plus gather huge quantities of situational information, distill it to situational essences, anticipate consequences of possible courses of action, consult colleagues, pray to God for light to see situational essences, then try to apply the hammer blow to the indicated place at precisely the time all indications suggest result in annihilation of an enemy’s C4ISR (Command Control Communication Computers + ISR), personnel, and equipment.

Unsurprisingly, The Church, whose Scriptures emphasize kairotic time, and Christianity are far more important officially to Russian Armed Forces than they are officially to American and European Armed Forces.

No American SecDef and JCS would take such a picture at a counterpart sanctuary, say, The National Cathedral or The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Russians’ doctrine specifies the only times -- i.e., the right times -- they will use nuclear weapons. This doctrine Russians make public. Americans' USG have no doctrine delimiting use of nuclear weapons, nor do they make that fact public.

Whether Republican, Democratic, Libertarian, Green, Communist, or any other party, Americans' USG will use nuclear weapons upon any occasion that suits them at the moment. The fact that Americans live on the verge of annihilating themselves with their own hands, using their own USG, Americans' USG do not make public.

Personally, I'd be unsurprised by a double envelopment, as at Cannae: center held, as now, along an @ 1K km front; right hook from the north, passing west of Kharkiv to Kremenchuk; left hook from the south, passing west of Kryvyi Rih, to Dnipropetrovosk. But at the right time, not when Peaches Petraeus thinks things should have happened.

Fill the nations’ leader roles with women and the welfare of nations does not improve, as we are told will happen. Just the opposite. Almost always, the nations so led auger in. The Almighty fashions very few women for the national leader role. Women have other roles that are just as important for a nation's welfare, if not more so, particularly for a nation's long-term welfare. Motherhood and homemaker are chief among these, but there are others.

Almost never arrives a woman suitable for the national leader role itself. When she does, she is self-evident as by a force of nature. There is no doubt as to who she is and for what role(s) she is suitable.

The role of a national leader belongs to a successful combat officer. The USA started out in this condition and continues happily only in the same.
