Flexible Defense = you don’t fight and die for indefensible territory.
Strategic Defense = you don’t take loss of territory as loss of battle or war.
Maneuver Defense = you attrit your enemy by making-inviting him to attack you on ground favorable to his loss of morale and supply.
Active Defense = from a fundament of flexible and maneuver defense, you strike upon operational or strategic considerations, not tactical ones.
Operational Initiative = A set of created conditions, situation and objective circumstances that make it possible to impose one’s will on the enemy during an ongoing operation for a certain time in the corresponding direction. The side that has seized the initiative has the freedom to choose methods of action, directions and timing of strikes, and can solve assigned tasks in favorable conditions, while the other side is limited in its actions. Seizing and maintaining operational initiative is one of the most important factors in achieving success in operations. It is achieved by delivering preemptive strikes, surprise actions, more decisive, daring and active use of one’s troops (naval forces) and assets, gaining fire superiority, air and sea supremacy, and constraining enemy actions.
Today’s notes on the Russian SMO +:
1- Russia’s actions are not connected to a calendar (a major point).
2- Russia will sweep in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Nikolaev, and Odessa-Transnistria, probably in that order. (Again, not connected to a time-line.)
3- Lvov et al. will return to Poland, Transcarpathia enclave-exclave to Hungary, region southwest of Odessa-Transnistria to Romania.
4- Beyond the welfare of upwards of a million Russians living in Israel, Russian interests are not at stake — so far — in the Arab-Israeli warfare.
5- Neither Russia nor Iran want to be at war with Israel. Yet, both see Israelis, especially Likudniks and their US AIPAC Zionist and Christian Evangelical Zionist allies and partners — aka Neocons, Judeo-Humanists (Atheists), Jesuits, Mormons — as unable to realize their political ambitions in a world now wise to and resolved to expel their anti-Christian genocidal rage and [astonishingly incompetent] military capability from polite society.
The outgoing 2023 was a year of disappointment for the West, but not awareness of the fallacy of the strategy itself in the Ukrainian direction.
Almost the whole world understands that the Palestinians need to be able to live in their country, but as long as the U.S. supports Israel's suicidal (historically) policy, this cannot be done.
In any case, the world will part with American hegemony through blood and wars, because their policy itself created and provoked conflicts (even when she thought it was controlling them). Therefore, the common task is to make sure that the influence and capabilities of the Atlantists are reduced. Only this can make the transition from Anglo-Saxon hegemonism to a multipolar world less bloody and faster. — Peter Akopov
